About the Region
South Asia is a beautiful fusion of colors, languages, and flavors. Life in this region is dominated by religious tradition and social hierarchies. But as local economies push into the global marketplace, younger generations are pursuing modern aspirations.
Off the beaten track and beyond the urban crush of South Asian megacities, much of the land is patchworked with fields and agricultural communities. From its rural districts to urban contexts, South Asia is one of the poorest regions in the world, and many families live in profound poverty.
There is a unique opportunity for workers in South Asia to be the hands and feet of Jesus—meeting spiritual and physical needs. The South Asian Church at large has yet to be mobilized, leaving over a billion people without the Gospel, including millions of Muslims.

Spiritual Climate
With its dizzying array of spiritual traditions, South Asia has dozens of Muslim people groups with no believers and no one even trying to bring them the Good News.
But reaching Muslims in South Asia is becoming easier. Teams throughout the region welcome new workers to get on-the-field training before launching into strategic areas with no Gospel witness.
There are also fruitful opportunities to partner with national believers, some who trace their spiritual heritage to the early missionary efforts of the apostle Thomas.
